CFC Ubon

More than 300 leaders and members, including 50 from CFC-Tharae (Sakhon Nakhon province) came to Zong Ye last Saturday, April 5th, to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of CFC in Zong Ye, Ban Lao, and Nong Khu villages.

The Thanksgiving Mass, using the readings of a wedding liturgy to renew marriage vows of the people present, was presided by His Excellency Bishop Philip Banchong, bishop of Ubon Ratchathani Diocese, and con-celebrated by five other priests and a deacon.

In his homily, Bishop Banchong expressed his appreciation of the dedication of CFC in the family apostolate and encouraged everyone to continue its pastoral work. He quoted Pope Francis on the lack of face-to-face communications among families, especially among the young, as modern technology becomes a materialistic temptation more than as a useful tool.

He exhorted the community to remain faithful to God and to church teachings and to help each other in the struggles of daily life and to reach out to the broken and hurting families in our midst.

Fr. Bernard Guillemin, MEP, was presented a bouquet and gift of appreciation for serving ten years (1994-2003) as CFC spiritual director for the diocese after the Mass. Fr. Guillemin has laid down a strong foundation in Ubon during the early years of CFC with Fr. John Tamayo, SDB, Acharn Arom Poolpokpol, Prakal Oudomugsorn, Samnieng
Thanara, and Jimmy Lozare.

Rouquel and Nina Ponte, first country coordinators for Thailand, came to Zong Ye twice in the 90s for pastoral visits and to conduct leaders formation training.

CFC in Ubon Ratchathani, began with a Thai CLP in six weekends of February-March in 1994 in Zong Ye, Yasothon province, with 11 couples from the three villages of Zong Ye, Ban Lao, and Nong Khu. It was held at the parish church of St. Michael the Archangel. The church is well-known as the biggest all-teak wood church in Thailand.

CFC has spread into several parishes pf the main town of Ubon Ratchathani and the nearby provinces of Sri Saket and Amnat Charoen.

We are grateful for the continuous blessings of our Lord upon CFC in this part of the world.
Many thanks for your kind support.

God bless to all,
Jimmy (7 April 2014)
